VIENTIANE, Aug. 14 (Xinhua): A total of 5,885,061 Lao people have had one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, equaling 80.2 per cent of the population, according to Laos' Ministry of Health.

The figure meets the target set by the country to vaccinate 80 per cent of the population by the end of 2022.

As of Sunday, a total of 5,220,015 people have received a second dose, accounting for 71.1 per cent of the population, according to the latest report by the Centre of Information and Education for Health under the ministry.

The ministry urged people to continue to be cautious, and advised them to get vaccinated, as well as to take a booster shot to bolster waning immunity levels following the first round of vaccinations.

The National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on Thursday reported one imported case and 96 locally transmitted cases in the country, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 212,124.
