Cases continue to drop as Vietnam reports 12,012 new Covid-19 infections on Monday (April 18)

HANOI, April 18 (Xinhua): Vietnam reported 12,012 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, down 2,649 from Sunday, according to its Ministry of Health.

Among the new infections, only one was imported and the rest were domestically transmitted.

The Vietnamese capital Hanoi remained the epidemic hotspot with 1,109 new cases on Monday, followed by the northern provinces of Yen Bai with 715 and Phu Tho with 700.

Also on Monday, local health authorities of central Vietnam's Thanh Hoa province reported 31,260 previously detected Covid-19 cases.

The infections brought the total tally to 10,475,819 with 42,957 deaths. Nationwide, as many as 8,941,064 Covid-19 patients, or 85 percent of the infections, have so far recovered.

More than 209.6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, including nearly 192.4 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry.

Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication, and infectivity.

As of Monday, it has registered nearly 10.5 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in April 2021, said the health ministry. - Xinhua
