HONG KONG (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): John Lee submitted his application on Wednesday (April 13) morning to stand for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s chief executive race scheduled on May 8.

Lee had garnered 786 nominations from the SAR’s nearly 1,500 Election Committee members as of 6pm on Tuesday. The number is well beyond the 188 nominations needed to be eligible for the vote. A candidate also needs at least 15 nominators from each of the five sectors in the committee.
