China and Laos education forum aims for higher-education cooperation

NANNING, Nov 27 (Xinhua): The 4th China-Asean (China-Laos) Higher Education Cooperation Forum was held on Friday (Nov 26) in Nanning, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Lao national capital city of Vientiane.

The event took place both online and offline, focussing on higher education cooperation between China and Laos.

It also summarized achievements and shared experiences on higher education and provided a platform for China-Laos higher-education cooperation in the new era.

About 70 education experts from China and Laos participated in the event.

It was co-sponsored by the National University of Laos and the education department of Guangxi and co-organized by Guangxi University for Nationalities and Baise University.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Laos. Saykhong Saynasine, director general of the Department of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos, said, via video link, that Laos and China have achieved comprehensive cooperation. He added that their education cooperation has also developed by leaps and bounds in recent years.

"This forum is very suitable for discussions on forming the mechanism and assessing possibilities to recognise digital learning, exchange information and knowledge, and utilise technology to promote cooperation in higher education," said Oudom Phonekhampheng, president of the National University of Laos, via video link. - Xinhua
