Thailand: Governor vows to have 70% Bangkokians jabbed in time for November reopening

BANGKOK, Oct 11 (The Nation Thailand/ANN): Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang promised on Monday that at least 70 per cent of Bangkokians will be double jabbed within this month, so the capital can reopen next month, and its economy can start to recover.

The governor also took receipt of six mobile vaccination units donated by the Smart Bus Co, Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade, PTT, Central Group and the Mall Group.

People arriving at the vaccination unit will be screened and asked to fill in a consent form.

Their ID card will then be verified before they get their jab.

They will then be monitored for 30 minutes before getting an appointment for their second dose.

The governor added that each BMV can serve 600 a day, and within this October, total 70 per cent of people in Bangkok will get the second dose.

Also, he added that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration had provided jabs of Covid-19 vaccine in eight areas of the capital, through the BMV service from Sept 7 to Oct 7.

Meanwhile, Thailand's consumer confidence index rose to 41.4 in September, moving up for the first time in seven months, as easing COVID-19 restrictions led to improving consumption and tourism activities, a survey has showed.

The reading climbed from 39.6 recorded in August, according to Thanawat Polwichai, director of the Economic and Business Forecasting Centre at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC).

Thanawat attributed the increase to the easing of restriction measures at the beginning of last month as the government tried to support the struggling economy.

The improvement in the country's Covid19 situation, the government's stimulus measures and the implementation of tourism reopening pilot schemes on the islands of Phuket and Samui also helped bolster consumer confidence, he said.

He added that the index would have been much stronger if having not been weighed by concerns over floods and rapid increase in oil prices. - The Nation Thailand/ANN
