BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 25 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): The Manpower Industry Steering Committee Working Group in Construction (MISC-WG Construction), a committee under the Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) with the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), launched the Dual TVET Programme during a ceremony at Musyawarah Hall, International Convention Centre.
The programme is aimed at ensuring the local workforce will be given opportunities to acquire skills and competencies, specifically in the construction industry.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah in his capacity as MPEC Chairman, Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi Haji Gafar, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad as a personal representative of Acting Minister of Education Datin Seri Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh officially launched the programme.
The HNTec in Construction and Draught will be the first course under the Dual TVET Programme, conducted by IBTE. The two-year course will commence this month.
It is a structured skills-based training programme consisting of industrial placement in identified participating construction companies. Fifty companies from the construction sector, comprising contractors, consultants, suppliers and building services, will train 96 ‘O’ Level students and NTec graduates .
Deputy Minister of Development Dato Seri Paduka Ar Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Legislative Council members, permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, heads of departments, managing directors and representatives from the construction companies attended the event, which also saw Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew presenting certificates of appreciation to participating companies. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
