Brunei records 91.8% total trade increase in April

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 7 (Xinhua): Brunei recorded 2, 193.1 million Brunei dollars worth in total trade for April 2021, a 91.8 percent year-on-year increase.

The latest International Merchandise Trade Statistics released on Wednesday by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics at the Ministry of Finance and Economy showed that Brunei's exports increased by 56.6% year-on-year to 1, 138.6 million Brunei dollars, which was mainly due to the increase in mineral fuel exports.

Mineral Fuels recorded the highest contribution of total exports (73.6 per cent) with a value of 837.6 million Brunei dollars.

Imports increased to 1, 054.5 million Brunei dollars from 416.4 million Brunei dollars in April 2020.

The highest share of exports in April 2021 went to Singapore (31.9 percent), followed by China (24.5 percent) and Japan (15.9 percent).

The highest share of imports in April 2021 was from Singapore (29.4 percent), followed by Malaysia (25.2 percent), and Saudi Arabia (10.0 percent). (1 Brunei dollar equals to about 0.74 U.S. dollar). - Xinhua
