MANILA, May 17 (Philippines Daily Inquirer/ANN): The current occupancy for Covid-19 dedicated beds at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) is going down and is now at the lowest since early March, the hospital spokesperson said on Monday.

Dr. Jonas Del Rosario said that only 153 Covid-19 patients were admitted at the PGH as of Sunday (May 16).

“We have 250 beds for Covid-19 and as of last night’s census, we have 153 confirmed Covid [patients] who are admitted to PGH. That’s probably less than 70 per cent of the occupancy already, ” he told ABS-CBN News Channel.

He noted the figure is the lowest “since the first week of March.”

“Since the start of the surge, we were operating over 200 [beds] so we are hoping that the trend will continue, although if you look at it for the past 10 days, [there are] not a lot of walk-in patients now going to the doors of PGH in the emergency room, ” Del Rosario said.

He added that there are now only five to 10 patients on the waitlist for admission compared to the previous 80 to 100.

“So I think it’s a reflection that the numbers are really going down. The other hospitals are also open to some of the patients so they don’t really have to come to PGH, ” he said.

The country currently has 54,904 active Covid-19 cases, including 5,790 new cases reported on Sunday.

Metro Manila has 15,428 active cases, including 1,204 new infections, according to the latest data from the Department of Health. - Philippines Daily Inquirer/ANN
