PHNOM PENH, May 17 (Phnom Penh Post/ANN): Phnom Penh will reduce the size of areas designated as red zones to the household level and reclassify orange zones to yellow, according to the municipal administration.

The decision was made on May 17 at a virtual meeting led by municipal governor Khuong Sreng with relevant authorities.

The administration said the move would smoothen the control and implementation of the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19-related guidelines and Prime Minister Hun Sen’s recommendations.

The administration previously extended the capital’s three-colour-coded system until May 19, with each colour determining to what extent coronavirus restrictions are placed on parts of the city.

The Ministry of Health on May 17 reported another 360 Covid-19 cases, all but four of which were linked to the February 20 community outbreak.

The ministry also reported four new deaths and 886 recoveries.

As of May 17, Cambodia had recorded a total of 22,544 Covid-19 cases and 154 fatalities.

Meanwhile, a flight carrying the fourth batch of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine Cambodia purchased from the Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech arrived in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, on Sunday (May 16).

Cambodia's health ministry secretary of state Yok Sambath noted that the Covid-19 vaccine is essential for the South-East Asian country to fight against the pandemic, expressing gratitude to China for its timely supply of the vaccine.

"This is another testament to the iron-clad friendship and close cooperation between Cambodia and China," she told reporters while receiving the vaccine at the Phnom Penh International Airport. - Phnom Penh Post/ANN
