PHNOM PENH, May 4 (Phnom Penh Post/ANN): The Siem Reap Provincial Administration has temporarily closed a clinic in Mondul 3 village in Siem Reap town’s Slakram commune after four of its patients tested positive for Covid-19 on May 2.

In a press release on the night of May 2, the administration urged people who have been in contact with them to get tested and self-quarantine.

According to the administration, the four new cases are linked to the February 20 outbreak. One of them is 30-year-old resident of Mondul 3 village in Slakram commune who travelled from Preah Sihanouk province – one of the country’s main Covid-19 hotspots – on April 28. Her family sent her for a check-up at Kong Rithy II Clinic on the morning of April 29.

Two of the remaining three people are residents in Siem Reap who had travelled to Prey Veng and Kampong Speu provinces. The fourth hailed from Prey Veng province and arrived in Siem Reap on April 28.

Siem Reap provincial governor Tea Seiha urged people in the province to increase their vigilance and implement preventive measures including the “three protections and three don’ts”, especially to follow administrative and quarantine measures.

"Any individual who violates these measures will face a penalty or imprisonment in accordance with the law," he said.

According to Ministry of Health, as of May 3 Siem Reap had recorded a total of 55 Covid-19 cases with 33 receiving treatment and no deaths.

Cambodia reported 841 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the national tally to 15,361, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Monday (May 3).

The new cases included 525 in capital Phnom Penh.

A total of 61 patients have recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,430, while the death toll reached 106.

Cambodia has been enduring the third wave of Covid-19 community transmission since Feb. 20. In a bid to flatten the infection curve, the country has imposed a lockdown in Phnom Penh and adjacent Ta Khmau city in Kandal from April 15 to May 5, and in the coastal city of Preah Sihanouk from April 23 to May 6.

The country launched an anti-Covid-19 inoculation drive on Feb 10. So far, some 1.42 million out of the kingdom's 16-million population had been vaccinated against the virus, showed a government report. - Phnom Penh Post/ANN
