BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 27 (Borneo Bulletin): More senior citizens received their vaccine shots as part of the ongoing vaccination drive in the country.

According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), 162 senior citizens were vaccinated nationwide yesterday, bringing the total number so far to 344.

In Brunei-Muara District, community leader Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin and his wife were among those who received their first dose of the vaccine.

Pehin Dato Paduka Goh extended his appreciation to the healthcare workers at the Indoor Stadium for their kindness.

“In Brunei, we are blessed that the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is providing the vaccine for free to everyone,” he said.

In Temburong District, 66-year-old Phang Kin Hua from Kampong Temada told the Bulletin, “I decided to get vaccinated as I understand it’s for our own health benefit in preventing us from being infected.”

Haji Mohd Sofian bin Md Kasim, 73, of Kampong Sibut said, “I felt obliged to play my part, knowing that our government is concerned for the well-being and health of the population.”

Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hitam, 63, from Kampong Labu expressed his confidence in the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. “It wouldn’t be administered by the government, if otherwise,” he said.

In Tutong District, Pengiran Haji Ibrahim bin Pengiran Damit, 78, said, “I am confident with our Ministry of Health. I have carried out all the health precautions as prescribed, and there is no question in my mind that I am eager to get vaccinated.”

Pengiran Haji Ibrahim was joined by his wife of 37 years, Johani Othman, who praised the authorities for providing vaccination to all citizens and residents.

As previously informed by the MoH, it is not mandatory to obtain the Covid-19 vaccine.

However, members of the public are welcome to register for Covid-19 vaccination shots when bookings for the injection slots are announced according to stipulated phases.

Meanwhile, almost 12,000 individuals have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine in Brunei, Minister of Health Haji Awang Mohd Isham had announced on Saturday. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
