HANOI, April 3 (dpa): Vietnam’s biggest private airline Vietjet will resume some international flight services starting from next week, the airline has announced.
Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok are scheduled to depart every Friday in April, Vietjet said. Flights from Hanoi to Seoul are scheduled to depart from April 15, while flights from Hanoi in Tokyo and Taipei are scheduled to depart on April 6 and 11, respectively.
"Flights from Vietnam will only serve passengers who meet the immigration regulations, who are Vietnamese people who study, work, visit relatives, or foreigners returning home from Vietnam,” the airline said.
All arrivals must pay for a mandatory 14-day period of quarantine.
The Vietnamese government last week also also allowed Vietnam Airline, the country’s national flag carrier, to resume inbound international flights.
Vietnam suspended all international flights at the end of March last year to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Following a resurgence of the virus at the end of January, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Vietnam would limit all inbound flights until after the holiday to reduce the risk of further coronavirus outbreaks.
Vietnam stands out as a global success story in its handling of the pandemic.
Vietnam recorded three new cases of Covid-19 infection on Friday night (April 2), raising the total confirmed cases in the country to 2,620, according to the country's Ministry of Health.
The new cases included a foreigner and two Vietnamese citizens who recently entered the country from abroad and were quarantined upon arrival, said the ministry.
As many as 2,383 patients have been given the all-clear, up 24 from Thursday, the ministry said, adding that nearly 27,500 people are being quarantined and monitored. - dpa
