VIENTIANE/HANOI, Aug 17 (The Vientiane Times/ANN): Laos Party Secretary General and President Bounnhang Vorachit and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Phu Trong have agreed to continue protecting and nurturing the great friendly relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
Holding phone talks on Aug 13, the leaders highly valued the relations and cooperation between the two Parties and states over the past years that have been enhanced and developed in all fields contributing to maintaining political stability and socio-economic development in each nation, Laos News Agency reported.
The leaders briefed each other about the situation of each Party and country and exchanged on bilateral cooperation and the world and regional situation.
Both sides agreed to continue sharing information in a timely manner and coordinating in international and regional issues, according to Vietnam News.
The leaders said they would strengthen ties within the frameworks of Asean, the United Nations, World Trade Organisation, Asia Europe Meeting and Mekong Sub-region cooperation mechanisms.
They also pledged to work with Cambodia to effectively implement the agreement between the three prime ministers on the Development Triangle Area between the three countries and at the same time coordinate with other nations in the sustainable and efficient management and use of water resources of the Mekong River, Vietnam News reported.
President Bounnhang congratulated and highly valued the comprehensive achievements the Vietnamese people have made in the past years, including the success in controlling the first wave of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The Laos leader expressed confidence that Vietnam would be able to control the second wave of Covid-19 outbreak. Bounnhang congratulated Vietnam for its successful rotating chairmanship of Asean for 2020.
He expected that the Vietnamese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam would attain greater achievements in the renovation process, successfully implementing the resolution of the 12th Party Congress and proceeding to the 13th National Congress of the Party.
President Bounnhang offered condolences to the Party, State and people of Vietnam on the death of former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu.
He thanked Vietnam for sharing experience and supporting Laos in preventing and controlling Covid-19.
For his part, President Trong thanked the Party, National Assembly, the Government and the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction for the condolences on the death of the former Vietnamese Party leader.
He said this demonstrated the loyal and long-standing relationship between the two Parties, States and peoples of the two countries.
He offered congratulations on the achievements of Laos in recent years and expressed his belief that, under the leadership of the Laos People’s Revolutionary Party, the Laos people would continue to prosper and implement the targets of the Resolution of the 10th Party Congress and to successfully organise the 11th National Congress. - Vientiane Times/Asian News Network
