The National Police's spokesperson Argo Yuwono said here on Sunday that the police had to shoot the suspected terrorist identified with initials IA on Saturday, as he attempted to resist the arrest.
"When we wanted to arrest him, IA resisted by using a sharp weapon, so we took stern measures," Yuwono said, adding that the suspect was brought to a hospital for medical treatment, but he died on Saturday afternoon.
The policemen wanted to arrest IA as they thought he was in connection to an incident on June 21 when a militant attacked Busroni who is the deputy chief of the Karanganyar district police in Central Java.
Yuwono said that the police have arrested three people, also in connection to the incident.
"This group is allegedly affiliated with ISIS. They plan to explode a police headquarters in Lampung," he added, referring to a province on the southern tip of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. - Xinhua
