JAKARTA: The Indonesian Health Ministry has planned to establish a health protocol which will be a guideline for the country to stage competitions and allow athletes to undergo training camps, a minister said on Sunday (May 31).

Indonesian Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali said that the ministry, the Indonesian National Sports Committee and the Indonesian Olympic Committee have already discussed formulations of the protocol to be applied during the implementation of a new normal scenario.

"We will make a conclusion which will be incorporated in a draft about the guideline on exercises and competitions. We will make it a health protocol for sports," Minister Amali remarked.

Coordination with stakeholders on efforts to curb the Covid-19 (coronavirus), the Health Ministry and the National Disaster Management Agency for instances, will be undertaken, he said.

The draft will be brought to the forthcoming cabinet meeting led by President Joko Widodo for a further discussion, according to him.

The planned protocol for sports, Amali said, will be a guideline in the 2020 Indonesian Open initially scheduled from November 17 to 22 in the country.

Indonesia has been gearing up for a new normal scenario under health protocols to shore up the economy which has stretched deep due to the virus pandemic. The plan goes along with the country's efforts to create a vaccine for the Covid-19.

As of Saturday, the Health Ministry reported that the virus has killed 1,573 people out of 25,773 infected persons across the vast archipelagic country. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
