PAS ready to split with DAP

PETALING JAYA: PAS is ready to end ties with DAP, according to an online report citing Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang. 

The PAS president said that this was because DAP created a shadow cabinet without the involvement of the Islamist party and PKR in the Pakatan coalition. 

Calling DAP's actions as "empty talks", Abdul Hadi was quoted as saying that the move was unrealistic. 

He said a shadow cabinet should not follow the interest of a certain group but instead take into account various matters in the Constitution. 

"If DAP wants to leave, then leave, I need to be in Malaysia, Malaysia is a multiracial country. 

"We already have many groups and non-Muslim NGOs," Abdul Hadi was quoted as saying this to reporters in Marang, Terengganu, after Friday prayers. 

He added that DAP was not the only party representing non-Muslims in the country. 

On Tuesday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng announced that the party had set up its own shadow cabinet, citing an inability to work with Abdul Hadi. 

Lim had said he was not confident that a Pakatan Rakyat shadow cabinet was possible due to Hadi’s unwillingness to consult its partners on various issues.
