IPOH: Datuk Yeoh Kian Teik, the father of international movie star Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh, has passed away at the age of 89.

Kian Teik's son, Yeoh Lam Beng, said the former Perak MCA chairman passed away peacefully of old age at his home in Lebuh Lasam here at about 6.15pm Wednesday.

"He was surrounded by family members," said Lam Beng, adding that Michelle was in Ipoh to be with their father during his final hours.

Besides his role in politics, Kian Teik was also known as the man behind the city's popular express bus service, Sri Maju, which started in 1975 with the Ipoh-Singapore route.

He leaves behind three wives, 16 children, 40 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
