PETALING JAYA: A young man stepped in between his mother and a sword-wielding youth at their nursery in Jalan Sungai Buloh and suffered a gash below his eyes.
Sim Foong Koon, 47, said four people – described as mere teenagers – came to the nursery on the pretext of looking for some plants.
The group, including a girl, browsed through the nursery and the shop and one of them made some jottings in a notebook.
They eventually returned to their car without buying anything. However, the person who was earlier jotting down notes returned with a Samurai sword and demanded that Sim hand over her waist pouch.
As Sim was fumbling to unbuckle the pouch, Lan Weng Soon, 21, who had just got back from lunch, thrust himself in between his mother and the attacker upon seeing the blade close to his mother’s face.
“My son was struck by the youth, resulting in a gash across his cheek. Then, my father, who was also there, chased the robber away with a stick,” she said.
The stunned intruder rushed back to his friends, dropping a bag he was carrying. The group then sped off in a black Proton Perdana in the 1.10pm incident yesterday.
Sim’s husband said he inspected the black bag dropped by the suspect and found in it a pair of handcuffs, a knife and bottles of urine.
