French honour for S’gor Sultan

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has received the Commandeur de la Legion d’Honneur (Commander of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour) award.

The award, by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, acknowledges the eminent role played by Sultan Sharafuddin, who is also Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).

France’s Chief of Defence Forces Admiral Edouard Guillaud presented the award on behalf of Sarkozy to the Sultan at the French ambassador’s residence in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Sultan Sharafuddin said he was very proud of the cooperation between the RMN and the French navy, adding that Malaysia’s two French-built Scorpene submarines were admired by many around the region.

“And the training of our navy sailors, mainly in Brest, where they learnt the French language too, cements our relationship further,” he said.
