Proposed plans for the Sg.Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line may acquire an estimated 704 lots, which sit on 600 hectares.
Out of that, 521 lots may be acquired from 180 hectares of private land, while the remaining 183 lots on 420 hectares will be from government land.
MRT Corp Sdn Bhd Strategic Communications and Public Relations director Mahmood Abdul Razak said that private land acquisition would only involve 23% of the total space needed for the project.
“This is because the alignment has been planned on road and highway medians, as well as reserves and government land as a way to minimise land acquisition."
Currently in its pre-construction Detailed Environmental Impact Assessment (DEIA) approval process, MRT submitted their proposals on April 15 to be reviewed by the Department of Environment (DoE).
If approved, construction is expected to commence by the second quarter of 2016.
One such concern during the construction stage, addressed in the DEIA, was the potential roads affected, involving some in the city centre.
These include Jalan Kepong to Kuala Selangor, Jalan Ipoh, Jalan Binjai, Jalan Sg Besi, Jalan Kepong, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Chan Sow Lin.
Measures to address this issue include creating specific traffic management plans developed for each site, such as maintaining the lane width and the number of lanes.
The DEIA on MRT Corp’s SSP Line will be on public display until May 19, at 27 locations.
It is made available at MRT Corp, DoE Headquarters as well as the municipal and city councils of Selayang, Subang Jaya, Sepang and Petaling Jaya, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
It can also be downloaded from the DoE and MRT Corp’s websites.
