Man, 21, drowns in Sibu public swimming pool


SIBU: A 21-year-old man tragically drowned while swimming at a public pool here on Saturday (July 19).

The incident occurred around 5pm when other swimmers noticed the victim submerged in the water and promptly pulled him out. However, he was already unconscious.

Bystanders immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while waiting for the ambulance. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead about 30 minutes after arriving at the emergency department.

Sibu police chief Asst Comm Zulkifli Suhaili confirmed that a police report was lodged by the victim’s brother.

“Preliminary examination of the body revealed no visible injuries, and no criminal elements have been found at this stage,” he said.

He also urged the public to refrain from spreading speculation or unverified information that could disrupt the investigation or disrespect the privacy of the victim’s family.

Police have encouraged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the case.
