Teen girl drowns in Kuala Krai River


KUALA KRAI: A teenage girl was found drowned in a river at Sungai Kampung Pasir Era here on Saturday (Feb 17) afternoon.

Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) operations commander Noorzaidi Mohamed said the body of the victim, only identified as 19-year-old Nurul Farisya, was found at about 7pm.

He said the fire department received a report about the incident at 4.16pm before a team of personnel from BBP Sungai Durian and BBP Machang were dispatched to the scene.

"The incident is believed to have occurred while the victim was swimming at the location with her friend Rosmaira Maisara Muhamad Azam, 13, but her friend survived.

"Nurul Farisya's body was found about one kilometre from the spot she went missing by her brother. The victim's body has been handed over to the police for further action,” he said when contacted on Saturday.- Bernama
