A helping hand from Taiwan

KUALA LUMPUR: Taiwan has come forward to give a helping hand to the neighbourhood watch of Taman Gasing Indah Rukun Tetangga (RT).

The voluntary patrol group from Petaling Jaya received anti-mosquito jackets and multifunctional LED lights from a Taiwanese delegation to help the residents during their neighbourhood patrols.

The ceremony took place at the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion during the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2017) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here yesterday.

Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia James Chang Chi-ping, Malaysian Green Business Association president Tan Sri Mustafa Mansur, Taiwan Trade Centre director Tasha Hsiao and Taipei Investor’s Association in Malaysia president Dave Lin were present.

Driver fined RM1,500 for hurting manager 

KUALA LUMPUR: A ride-sharing driver was fined RM1,500 for injuring the manager of a major ice cream chain by kicking him in the face.

Muhammad Rafi Zaidi, 30, pleaded guilty to intentionally causing harm to Muhammad Hazmi Rashid Mohamad Not, 27, at his office in Midvalley City, at 5pm on April 21.

The offence under Section 323 for causing harm is punishable by the maximum of a year in prison or a fine of RM2,000 or both.

Lawyer Zulkifli Awang urged the court to impose a fine without a prison sentence as his client was the sole breadwinner of the family.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin said the court should hand down a sentence befitting such an act of violence.

Magistrate Mahayuddin Md Som imposed a RM1,500 fine, which was paid.

Penang tithes CEO case on Nov 8 

BUTTERWORTH: The mention date for the case of the Penang Tithes Management Centre CEO charged with four counts of bribery has been fixed for Nov 8.

Sessions Judge Sitarun Nisa Abdul Aziz fixed the date when the case came up for mention yesterday.

Datuk Azman Abdul Samat, 50, was charged with one count of bribery at the Sessions Court in George Town on July 21.

He is accused of receiving a Cerutti watch worth RM1,280 from the owner of Syarikat Safa Murni Enterprise, Zaiyusri Ibrahim, at the Zakat Training Centre on Feb 27 this year.

On July 19, Azman claimed trial to another three charges of graft at the Butterworth Sessions Court.

Boy Iman remanded for two days

KUBANG PASU: The Jitra magistrate’s court granted a two-day remand order on DBI Properties managing director Datuk Noruliman A. Rahman to facilitate investigations into a property scam here involving RM30,000.

Also remanded were two men and a woman aged between 30 and 45 who are directors of Syarikat Juta Kelulut Global Resources.

Magistrate Abdul Hadi Hakimi Harun granted the remand orders under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

Noruliman, 37, also an actor known as Boy Iman, was detained on Monday at the Bukit Indah police station in Ampang for alleged involvement in a RM6.2mil property scam. — Bernama.

Search goes on for man swept away in river 

KOTA BARU: The search operations continue for a man who was reported missing after he was swept away by strong currents in Sungai Kenerong in Dabong, Kuala Krai.

The victim, Zamri Abdullah, 44, was reported to have gone to the river with his wife Norzalmawati Mat Nor, 43, and brother Zamzuki, 40, at about 2pm on Tuesday to look for stones to be used as tombstones for his mother’s grave after she died three days ago. — Bernama.

Teen raped and forced into oral sex with rapist’s wife 

KUALA LUMPUR: A 16-year-old girl was raped repeatedly for several months and was even forced to perform oral sex on her captor’s wife, before she managed to escape.

It is learnt that, the victim and her 18-year-old boyfriend went to live with the couple at the Bukit Mewah flat in Kajang early this year.

While being held captive the girl was raped repeatedly and the boyfriend was often beaten up.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Yusoff said the victim’s boyfriend managed to escape in September while she followed suit the following month.

“The girl was sent to Kajang Hospital for treatment. She was examined by a doctor and it was discovered that she had a tear in her private parts,” he said, adding that police have launched a search for the two suspects.

No top-up lanes at PLUS tolls during Deepavali 

KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists are advised that the topping up facility at 134 top-up lanes at toll plazas of PLUS’ highways will be ceased from Oct 17-19 in conjunction with Deepavali.

PLUS managing director Datuk Azman Ismail said the temporary discontinuation of the facility was to reduce congestion at the toll plazas in view of the increased traffic volume during the period.

However, he said the top-up lanes at the Bukit Kayu Hitam and Bangunan Sultan Iskandar toll plazas would be operating as normal on those days.

He said this move, which was taken during major celebrations earlier, had helped reduce congestion at toll plazas and the same would apply in future (for major holiday breaks). — Bernama.

Two charged with trying to get rid of murder evidence

JOHOR BARU: Two friends pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to trying to dispose of evidence linked to a murder case in September.

Factory operator D. Khisendra, 24, and security guard K. Mathan Raj, 31, were charged with the offence before Sessions Judge Kamarudin Kamsun yesterday.

The two men allegedly committed the offence at a bus stop along Jalan Persiaran Danga near Perling here at 7.50am on Sept 21.

Kamarudin imposed RM12,000 bail for Khisendra and RM10,000 for Mathan Raj before setting Nov 9 for mention of the case.
