Manhunt on for four masked men who rammed into police car

JOHOR BARU: A police manhunt is underway for four masked men who crashed their van into a police patrol unit and two other vehicles near Taman Desa Jaya here in a bid to escape inspection.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Jokhiri Abd Aziz said the patrolling unit spotted the van during its routine rounds along Jalan Tebrau heading towards Ulu Tiram at around 12.45pm Tuesday.

Upon seeing the police vehicle, the suspects sped off towards nearby Taman Desa Jaya.

"Despite police orders for the van to stop, the suspects sped off recklessly, prompting a pursuit.

"The van crashed into the front of the police car before coming to a halt after it was sandwiched between a lorry and a multi-purpose vehicle," he said in a statement.

Supt Jokhiri added all four suspects managed to escape on foot.

The driver of the police patrol car suffered injuries on both hands, he said.
