I'm brave enough to table annual reports on country's performance, says Najib

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) says he has been brave enough to table yearly reports on the country’s national transformation performance despite the continued attempts of several quarters to discredit his Government.

Speaking at the launch of the 2016 annual report on the National Transformation Programme (NTP) on Tuesday night, the Prime Minister said he opted to be a “gentleman” and a “real man” in updating Malaysians on the state of the national economy every year since 2010.

“In fact, if surveyed, where is there any other government in the world that is as transparent and has discipline of action in fulfilling its promises, prioritising the interest of the people, and not just offering empty promises,” he told the packed Dewan Agung Tuanku Chancellor in Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) here.

The Barisan Nasional chairman said there were many individuals who were sceptical about the Government’s ability to weather the challenges faced by the country, repeatedly accusing it of being a “failed state”.

However, he said the Government had answered its critics by introducing brave measures over the last eight years to ensure that the nation remained on the right economic track.

“What is most important, as I have repeated countless times, is that the facts and figures of our success that have been reported are not mere rhetoric or fabrication, or syok sendiri (self-aggrandisement).

“Instead, I firmly wish to state that these facts and information have been audited and verified by independent and accredited international organisations,” he added.
