ALOR SETAR: The senior Immigration officer arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for alleged graft involving RM27.9mil has been released.
He was brought before Alor Setar Lower Court senior assistant registrar Wan Nor Fadzilah Wan Ibrahim yesterday after his remand expired, and was granted a RM10,000 bail in two sureties.
The officer was probed for allegedly taking bribes to approve work permits of 18,626 skilled foreign workers while in Putrajaya.
He was arrested during MACC’s Ops Lavish here about two weeks ago.
Also detained were an enforcement officer based at the Padang Besar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex, and three contractors, including a 53-year-old Datuk.
All have also been released on RM10,000 bail with one surety each.
The Immigration officer was transferred from Putrajaya to the Padang Besar Immigration Department in Perlis early last year.
He allegedly had five luxury cars, including a BMW X6, a BMW 320i and a Toyota Vellfire, a BMW R1200 superbike, 13 luxury watches and 13 branded handbags.
Together with a fixed deposit account of about RM1mil, all money and items seized were valued at close to RM2.5mil.
