Border officers on the radar

ALOR SETAR: Some enforcement officers stationed at the Kedah border with Thailand are believed to have been enjoying a lavish lifestyle from corrupt activities.

And the suspects are expected to be picked up by anti-graft officers soon.

Kedah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohamad, who said this yesterday, revealed that MACC got this information from their intelligence gathering and tip-offs from sources.

“We have received information on these people and their activities. The corrupt practices at the border are alarming. This includes every agency. We may make some arrests,” he added.

Kedah has two border towns to Thailand – Bukit Kayu Hitam and Durian Burung in the Padang Terap district near here.

Mohd Fauzi also said the 3J – Jangan Hulur, Jangan Kawtim, Jangan Settle (Don’t Give and Don’t Settle) and Gerah (Anti-Corruption Revolution Movement) campaigns were meant to bring the fight against corruption to more people.

He said the campaigns followed the “Corruption Free Pledge” campaign nationwide which had received much support from ministries, state governments, non-governmental organisations and sports bodies.

“I hope the heads of departments will start taking corruption seriously and ensure their staff are clean and free from corrupt activities,” he said.
