Sombre mood at funeral of student who fell to his death


GEORGE TOWN: There was a sombre mood at the funeral of Goh Xin Xi, 21, who fell to his death while trying to climb through the window of his seventh-floor hostel in a public university on Wednesday.

Family members and friends came in droves to pay their last respects to him as sadness hung in the air.

More than 40 students of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), who came in its university bus and clad in dark blue university formal shirts, joined the final rites prayers quietly.

Goh was sent off in a simple solemn ceremony before his body was taken to be cremated at the Mount Erskine Crematorium.

It started drizzling when the hearse left the Leng How Koe funeral parlour in Paya Terubong here.

It was reported on Thursday that Goh, who is an UniMAP student fell to his death when he slipped while trying to climb into his seventh-floor hostel through the window.

Apparently, he had forgotten his keys, which were in his hostel, and tried to climb into his hostel through the window.

He died on the spot in the 2.45pm incident.
