MIRI: Sarawakian businessman Datuk Stephen Lee Chee Kiang, who was on the run for six months, arrived here Wednesday and police said he would be charged with the murder of land activist Bill Kayong.
Lee arrived at the airport at about 11.15am under heavy police escort.
Sarawak CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar said Lee "is the main suspect" in the case and he would be charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code that carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
"There is still one more suspect we are looking for.
"Lee is the main suspect. We got him with the help of the Chinese authorities in Fujian, China and Interpol.
"We had earlier made an application to cancel his international passport.
"So when he landed in China they detained him and alerted us.
"I went with another officer to bring him back and we will charge him in court for murder," Dev Kumar told reporters at the airport.
Kayong was gunned down mafia style at a traffic junction in Kuala Baram on June 21.
Police have already arrested the alleged shooter.
Lee went overseas days after the shooting and police and Interpol had been hunting him since he left the country.
Kayong, the Miri PKR secretary, was actively involved in fighting for native land rights in the state.
