KOTA KINABALU: A retired civil servant who went fishing in a river in Lahad Datu has been found dead after a suspected crocodile attack.
The man, identified as Tiga Hari Madjami, is believed to have been snatched and attacked by a crocodile at about midnight Wednesday.
A friend who was with him said he heard splashes in the water and Tiga Hari calling for help before he went missing in the river.
The friend then called the fire brigade for help.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Khatizah Rahaban said the search and rescue mission lasted about 30 minutes.
“The victim’s body was found near where he was last seen," she said, adding that the body was sent to hospital for post-mortem.
