‘Datuk Seri’ among two nabbed in graft probe involving death certs

PETALING JAYA: Two men, including a “Datuk Seri”, have been nabbed for allegedly soliciting bribes to falsify death certificates.

The suspects were arrested on Monday at 10pm at their homes.

It is alleged that the Datuk Seri, aged 46, was a former special officer of a member of a royal family.

The other suspect is aged 59 and self-employed.

Both men have been remanded for five days to assist in investigations.

It is learnt that hundreds of thousands of ringgit and other documents were seized from both suspects during the raids.

According to sources, in the most recent case, the suspects solicited RM125,000 from a woman whose husband had died, to alter certain columns in the death certificate.

“They asked for money to alter the certificate for claims purposes.

“We are checking how many cases they were involved with,” said the source.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki has confirmed the arrests.
