BN’s Sungai Besar candidate Budiman prefers to be underdog

KUALA LUMPUR: The “war” has begun and it is time for everyone to work together, says newly named Barisan Nasional's Sungai Besar candidate Budiman Mohd Zohdi (pic).

The Sungai Panjang assemblyman while thanking Barisan for naming him as the candidate, said he would work as the underdog to ensure the party retains its seat in Sungai Besar.

"With the continuous support of all the Umno grassroots members and the Wanita as well as the Youth, I am confident that we would be able to win this seat," he told the crowd here on Friday.

If he wins in Sungai Besar, Budiman would be the first Umno member to have both a state and parliamentary seat.

Earlier, when met by reporters, Budiman was asked if he would be overwhelmed.

He replied that he would be able to handle it if PKR's Datuk Seri Azmin Ali could.

"Azmin Ali is the assemblyman for Bukit Antarabangsa and the parliamentarian for Gombak.

"If he can manage it, so can I," he said, adding that his focus would be on winning.

Budiman added that regardless of whether the by-election on June 18 would see a one-on-one or a three-cornered fight, he was confident of winning.

"The focus is on winning first. I will go down to the grassroots and work as an underdog to ensure that Barisan wins this seat," he said.

He added that he would use his track record from his state seat to work towards a success in the by-election.

"I will use my track record of my work as Adun Sungai Panjang to bring to the Parliament. I will continue my work here and assist all races including the Malays, Indians and Chinese," said Budiman.
