IGP warns Opposition MPs over planned march for Rafizi

KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition lawmakers who participate in the march from Parliament to Bukit Aman in solidarity with PKR’s Rafizi Ramli can and will be arrested in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act (APA), says the Inspector-General of Police.

Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pic) in a series of tweets on Wednesday wrote that the Act forbids any street protest.

“The APA forbids street protests so the organisers better be prepared to face stern consequences.

“The police would like to remind those who intend to participate in the march to Bukit Aman to protest the arrest of YB Rafizi Ramli to abide by APA to avoid facing action,” he said.

Khalid added that the arrest of Rafizi was in accordance with the law and that the police would leave it to the Attorney-General and the courts to make further decisions.

Earlier on Wednesday, Opposition lawmakers said that they would be marching from Parliament House to the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman at 9am on Thursday to protest the arrest of the PKR vice-president.

Rafizi was arrested in front of Parliament at about 6.20pm on Tuesday under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) to facilitate investigations over claims he made against the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT).
