Zaid to be charged over blog post

KUALA LUMPUR: Former minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim will be charged at a Sessions Court here today over his blog post against the Prime Minister.

It is learnt that he will be charged under the Communication and Multimedia 1998 Act over his blog post dated Sept 2.

Zaid was believed to have intentionally used an Internet application to make offensive statements against the Prime Minister under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communi­cations and Multimedia Act 1998.

Yesterday, Zaid had his statement recorded at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters at about 2.15pm.

Zaid was accompanied by his two lawyers and left the premises about an hour later.

“I was summoned to the headquarters to get my statement recorded and hand over a screenshot of the blog post which includes the text.

“I’m ready for whatever possibility. We are a democratic country and should be given the freedom to voice our opinions for the benefit of the nation,” he said when met outside the headquarters.
