Labour Department gets tough

KUCHING: The Sarawak Labour Department yesterday conducted simultaneous operations throughout the state on 140 employees' workplaces in food premises in which 740 violations were detected under the Labour Ordinance.

A statement issued by the department here said among the violations detected were failure of the employer to keep personal register (99 cases), to keep list of employment's terms and conditions (94 cases), to keep payroll (85 cases), to pay wages and allowances to workers (68 cases), to give notice under Section 60A (40 cases), failed to pay wages on public holiday (35 cases), failed to pay minimum wages (32 cases), failed to give employees one off-day weekly (31 cases).
