Frost Cherry slushies a respond to lower-calorie Slurpee options.

DIET Coke, billed as the second most popular beverage in the US, has launched its first frozen product in the brand’s 31-year history, with a cherry flavour-spiked frosted drink.

The beverage behemoth announced a partnership with 7-Eleven that will see Diet Coke Frost Cherry slushies at the convenience stores’ Slurpee pumps, alongside the popular Coca-Cola Classic flavour.

The US product launch is said to respond to the growing interest for lower-calorie Slurpee options.

Each serving of the slushie drink clocks in at 30 calories and 12g of carbs.

To promote the drink, 7-Eleven is also offering a coupon for a free drink via its mobile app for iPhone and Android.

The Diet Coke Frost Cherry has launched in select markets and will roll out to other retailers and beverage machines by the end of May.

While Coca-Cola is developing cold drinks in anticipation of summer, US consumers still in the full grip of winter may be interested in the brand’s latest Japanese innovation: Canada Dry Hot Ginger Ale, scheduled to be released last fall.

The self-heating can warms up the carbonated beverage, spiked with the additional flavourings of cinnamon, apple, spices and ginger extracts. – AFP Relaxnews
