First World Hotel regains title as world’s largest hotel

PETALING JAYA: The First World Hotel in Genting has earned the Guinness World Record for the “world’s largest hotel” for the second time.

A statement by Resorts World Genting said its property had earlier earned the honours between 2006 and 2013 when it had 6,116 rooms in the hotel.

“Today, the three-star hotel houses 7,351 rooms and is a symbol of excellence for Resorts World Genting,” said the statement.

The award was presented at the Guinness World Records office in London by its adjudicator Alan Pixley to the Genting hotel operations senior-vice president, Edward Holloway.

“Alan in his speech, congratulated the hotel for reclaiming the record for the World’s Largest Hotel, while Edward said that the endorsement by Guinness is the icing on the cake.

“He said that the hotel has received over 35.5 million guests over the nine years since the last record and that this achievement for the iconic hill resort helps strengthen Malaysia on the international map for excellence in tourism and hospitality,” said the statement.

The statement added that besides the increase in rooms, the First World Hotel has also enhanced its dining and entertainment.

The hotel has three blocks and the new block, annex 2A with its newly decorated rooms, accompanying entertainment and F&B outlets will offer a new phase to the hotel.

It added that upcoming features include 20th Century Fox World Theme Park in 2016, Genting Premium Outlet, a brand new shopping mall in Sky Avenue and a new cable system.
