Ali Tinju detained, cops target Papagomo

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has rounded up Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association chief Mohd Ali Baharom for allegedly causing racial tension relating to the ruckus at Low Yat Plaza, said Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

The Inspector-General of Police said Mohd Ali, better known as “Ali Tinju”, was arrested at about 1.30pm at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters yesterday.

It is learnt that the former Armed Forces personnel, who is also a branch leader of a political party, was detained under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

Ali Tinju was seen in a video making offensive racial remarks in front of Low Yat Plaza. The video has gone viral and he even posted it on his Facebook page.

In the video, Ali, dressed in a white shirt, urges a particular group to fight for their rights and attack their oppressors.

But police are still looking for blogger Papagomo, who allegedly posted a picture of a “victim” of the ruckus, worsening the incident.

The blogger was quickly silenced by Twitter user @ShafizahMS who told him off, saying the victim was her relative who had been robbed in Shah Alam.

As of press time, Papagomo has not surrendered or been arrested.

At an earlier event, the IGP said the time had come for those asked to surrender themselves to do so.

“Today we will come for them and make the arrests,” he said, adding that those who made speeches near Low Yat Plaza asking people to riot should be ready to face the consequences.

Khalid said police would identify others who were responsible for spreading false news on social media and other media as well.
