Floods: Six districts still affected in Pahang

KUANTAN: Only six districts are still affected in Pahang with more evacuees returning to clean up their homes in the aftermath of the ravaging floods.

As of 12pm Tuesday, the number of evacuees stood at 21,471 people from 171 villages seeking temporary shelter at 106 floods relief centres.

Pekan now has the most evacuees with 11,154 people from 65 villages in 37 centres.

Others were Temerloh (4,662 people in 32 centres), Maran (2,779 people at 18 centres), Kuantan (1,130 people at four centres), Bera (1,091 people at 11 centres) and Jerantut (655 people at four centres).

All flood evacuees in Lipis have since returned to their homes.

Pahang Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) chief Datuk Chang Hong Seong said that the depot in Dewan Sri Teruntum Kampung Baru where donation items were assemble before distribution to flood victims would be closed.

Chang said the remaining items were mattresses, blankets and foodstuff would be sent to Sungei Lembing to be distributed to the flood victims there.

"We will be starting a new exercise to collect school uniforms for students affected by the floods.

"The first batch of uniforms will be given out to recipients in Wisma MCA here on Jan 18," he said in an interview.

Chang said presently, volunteers were in the midst of collecting the information of affected students on the ground.

He said CRSM members would also continue to help in raising funds and cleaning up exercises in badly affected districts in the state.

So far, this year's floods have claimed six lives in Pahang.

The six fatalities were three in Temerloh and one each in Jerantut, Sungei Lembing and Lipis.

Elsewhere, several village roads were still closed for light vehicles in Pekan, Kuantan and Maran while only four points along Sungai Pahang were above the danger level.

As of 11am, the river point near Kampung Chenor and Lubuk Paku - both in Maran district - were at 24.24m (danger level 23.50m) and 20.69m (19m), respectively.

The other two points were Kuala Sungai Chini at 16.77m (14.90m) and Paloh Inai at 12.25m (10.30m).
