MALACCA: Amidst the voices of condemnation over the missing Flight MH370 and now the kidnap of a Chinese tourist in Sabah, there are netizens in China who called for rational and mature judgment of the situation.

Langjitianya_yu1992 wrote on the Weibo micro-blogging site that he felt disheartened after reading Internet comments on the kidnap case.

“Regardless of which country the victim comes from, how could we forgo our humanity? More so to our own compatriot.”

On Wednesday, Gao Huayuan, 29, a tourist from Shanghai, was taken along with Filipina hotel employee Marcy Dayawan, 40, in a raid by about six gunmen at around 10:30pm. There were 58 other Chinese tourists at the resort.

The raid occurred at the Singamata Reef Resort near the town of Semporna off Sabah. The women were reportedly taken away in a boat.

Another Weibo user said there was no point in adding insult to injury.

“The trip could have been planned way earlier before the MH370 incident. Most bookings do not give full refunds for last minute cancellations.

“Why should a Chinese deride a Chinese. Please use your brain and stop condemning!”

Another surfer said: “What’s important now is to rescue the hostages and not fight!”.

Others expressed their disappointment over the abduction while the online discussion among Chinese Internet users on MH370 was still being hotly debated.

Some described the situation as yi bo wei ping yi bo you qi (a new wave arose when the previous one had barely subsided).

Qianzai2011 wrote that he was getting disappointed with Malaysia’s bad security.

Zoubuxunchanglu wrote: “Why again Malaysia, why again China, is all these on purpose?”.

zhaoxiasihuo1 said: “Over 150 (Chinese) people went missing in Malaysia (flight MH370). No one was found and not even their remains. Why still so many Chinese go visit and spend in Malaysia?”
