Following the company's announcement of its new Googlebook OS laptop operating system, Google has stated in a support page that it will continue supporting existing ChromeOS laptops until mid-2034.
According to the page, this includes providing regular updates and security patches. Furthermore, Google says that it will support the transition for ChromeOS devices with a support cycle that would go past the year 2034.
"For qualifying devices purchased today whose 10-year support lifecycle extends beyond 2034, Google is committed to supporting your transition to Googlebook OS, with many devices offering direct migration paths," the company writes.
The support page further says that many of the newer commercial Chromebook (which uses ChromeOS) models have the ability to upgrade to Googlebook OS, with further information on eligibility and the upgrade process to be provided down the line.
Googlebook OS will also receive a centralised device management feature in the second half of 2027. Centralised device management is typically used by an IT department in an organisation to manage its large fleets of deployed devices among its staff or students.
