Samsung Electronics to move up start of chip factory in Yongin to 2029, source says

SEOUL, ⁠July 13 (Reuters) - Samsung ⁠Electronics aims to bring ‌forward operation of its chip fabrication site ​in the city ⁠of Yongin, ⁠south of Seoul, to ⁠2029 ‌from 2030-2031, as ⁠the chipmaker seeks to keep ​up ‌with surging demand ⁠for ​memory chips used in AI infrastructure, ⁠a source told ​Reuters on Monday.

Samsung did not immediately respond ⁠to Reuters' request for comments.

Yonhap News Agency first reported ​about the ⁠change of the ​plan on ‌Sunday.
