KUALA LUMPUR: Qualcomm says its new lineup of Snapdragon X2 processors offers greater battery life and more efficient on-the-go performance compared to the previous generation.

The Arm-based lineup of processors – referring to the chip architecture used – was showcased at a media event today (May 21), with the latest additions to the series comprising two X2 Plus processors and three X2 Elite models.

The semiconductor company claims the X2 Plus processors are up to 35% faster while consuming 43% less power than the last generation. Meanwhile, the performance of the X2 Elite processors is up to 67% faster while also using up to 43% less power.

It adds that a major focus of its PC-specific processors is to bring aspects of smartphone computing to laptops, specifically the ability to maintain consistent performance whether plugged in or running on battery.

Rather than having users plug in for full performance, the goal is for laptops to deliver the same level of performance regardless of charging status, ensuring full productivity while out and about, with charging relegated to purely replenishing battery life, the company adds.

Qualcomm further says that the improved efficiency enables up to 32 hours of battery life under mixed-use scenarios.

The processors also feature 80 TOPS neural processing units (NPUs), which Qualcomm claims make the X2 series up to 78% faster than the last generation in artificial intelligence (AI)-driven tasks. NPUs enable on-device artificial intelligence tools such as large language models (LLMs), image editing, and upscaling, without requiring an Internet connection.

Laptops from Qualcomm partners that utilise the Snapdragon X2 series of processors are already available in Malaysia, with further launches scheduled in the coming months.
