US securities regulator issues long-awaited crypto guidance

March 17 (Reuters) - The U.S. ⁠Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday issued an interpretation clarifying which types of cryptocurrencies are ⁠considered securities and how a "non-security" digital asset could meet certain conditions to become an ‌investment contract.

SEC Chair Paul Atkins also on Tuesday said the agency should consider a safe harbor proposal to provide crypto companies with "bespoke pathways" to raise capital, while maintaining appropriate investor protections.
