WhatsApp sparked buzz on X after it replied to a user’s post suggesting the company should release an iPad version of its app.

The reply was just the eyes emoji but users on X took it as a hint that the company may be teasing the imminent release of the long-awaited WhatsApp app for iPad.

It's also worth noting that the reply was directed at a post made by a user on April 8.

Posted on May 27, the WhatsApp response has since garnered over 340,000 views with most users expressing their excitement. Some also commented that the update is "long overdue".

There were also other users who expressed scepticism over the post, claiming that WhatsApp has been teasing the app for years but offered no update.

Back in 2023, it was reported that the company was beta-testing an iOS version of the app for iPad.

One user said he "highly doubted" the app will be released for iPad, comparing its likelihood to Instagram chief Adam Mosseri finally launching an iPad version of the social media platform.

Notably, the Instagram app is also still not available for download on the iPad. It was reported last month that native Instagram app for iPad is currently in development.

Interestingly, one user noted that if WhatsApp can be made available on a Formula 1 car’s steering wheel, there’s no reason the company couldn’t release an app for the iPad.

As part of a partnership with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, it was announced last year that WhatsApp would have its own dedicated button on the cars’ steering wheels, allowing drivers to communicate with the team.
