ChatGPT outage affects users globally as OpenAI works on a fix

Update: OpenAI says traffic for API, ChatGPT and Sora has largely recovered, adding that it is monitoring the situation to ensure a full resolution.

PETALING JAYA: The generative AI chatbot ChatGPT is currently down, affecting users worldwide.

"We're experiencing an outage right now. We have identified the issue and are working to roll out a fix. Sorry and we'll keep you updated!" said developer OpenAI in an announcement on X posted at 8.15am local time.

Visitors to chatgpt.com will encounter a blank screen displaying the message, "ChatGPT is currently unavailable."

Apart from ChatGPT, the company also confirmed that its other products, namely its API (application programming interface) and generative video tool Sora, are currently not available as well.

In the latest update on its Status page, the company said it is working to fix it.

"API traffic recovery is ongoing and we are bringing ChatGPT traffic back up by region. Sora is partially beginning to recover," the company in a message dated Dec 11, 2024, at 18.54 PST (local time: Dec 12, 10.54am).

In the meanwhile, users can consider other alternatives such as Gemini by Google and Perplexity AI.
