Doctors were among the most popular Malaysian Twitter accounts, as people turned to the microblogging service for news on the Covid-19 pandemic.
In its 2021 roundup, Twitter announced that medical accounts including the Health Ministry (@KKMPutrajaya), Dr Khairul Hafidz (@khairul_hafidz) who started the #MedTweetMY hashtag and Dr B. Nimelesh (@HausofHilton) were among the 10 most popular local accounts.
The top 10 also included sports personalities and celebrities like Olympic cyclist Azizulhasni Awang (@AzizulAWANG), fashion entrepreneur Neelofa (@Neelofa) and singer Naim Daniel (@naimdanielx).
The singer also posted one of Malaysia’s most engaged Tweets of the year, where he (@naimdanielx) reminded others to spend time and make memories with loved ones, while they still could.
Since being posted back in August, it garnered 64.9K Retweets, 1,578 Quotes and 69.4K Likes.
Twitter said this year doctors and medical experts had become more active on the platform to share credible health-related information and to clarify Covid-19 vaccine-related misleading or fake news to the public.
“Unsurprisingly, #covid19 is Malaysia’s top hashtag, with the country facing a lockdown in the middle of the year and many people turned to Twitter for timely updates on developments and to share their thoughts on the situation,” it said, in a press release.
The data was based on Twitter’s analytics from Jan 1 to Nov 15 of this year.
