Use the Force – or free Star Wars wallpapers – in video calls

Sick of others seeing your living room in video calls or wish you could be in a galaxy far, far away? Your solution may just be a few clicks away.

On its website, Lucasfilm is offering a range of Star Wars wallpapers that can be applied as a virtual background during video calls.

“StarWars.com is excited to present a galaxy of virtual Star Wars backgrounds that you can use in any online meeting.

“If you’re home and catching up with friends, talking with family, or an important work video call, you can now do so appearing as if you’re somewhere in a galaxy far, far away.

“Whether you dress as a Star Wars character is entirely up to you. (But we would encourage it.), ” said the site.

Most of the images are from the more recent releases – Episode VII: The Force Awakens to Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker – such as the Starkiller Base, Death Star Ruins and Exegol.

Those that prefer the original Star Wars trilogy can pick wallpapers such as the icy landscapes of Hoth or interior of the Millennium Falcon.

To use them as background, click on an image to open it in full resolution, save it and then upload it to the virtual background library of the video conferencing service of your choice.

Most video conferencing services like Skype, Zoom and Google Hangouts allow users to upload an image or video that can be overlayed as the background, like green screens in movies.

However, bear in mind the terms and conditions: "Except as expressly licensed, we do not allow uses of the Disney Products, or other Disney intellectual property, that are commercial or business-related, including used in marketing or branding, or that advertise or offer to sell or promote products or services (whether or not for profit), or that solicit others (including solicitations for contributions or donations)."
