Celebrating lifelong learning across Asia

AeU confers Emeritus Professor on Prof Datuk Dr Sayed Mushtaq Hussain, recognising his lifelong contributions to education, policy and human development.

Asia e University (AeU) marks another milestone with its 14th convocation ceremony, to be held at Rose Hall, Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC), Shah Alam.

This year, AeU celebrates over 1,500 graduates, representing diverse professions and countries across Asia, a true reflection of the university’s mission as a Pan-Asian institution of lifelong learning.

AeU’s programmes span disciplines in Management, Information Technology, Humanities and Education, reflecting its broad commitment to developing well-rounded professionals equipped to contribute to Asia’s evolving knowledge economy.

Honouring a legacy of scholarship and service

A highlight of the ceremony will be the conferment of the distinguished title of emeritus professor to Prof Datuk Dr Sayed Mushtaq Hussain, a respected development economist and former United Nations expert whose lifelong dedication to education, policy and human development has left a lasting mark on academia and society.

Known as ‘an old man in new learning’, Prof Sayed Mushtaq embodies the spirit of curiosity, humility and wisdom that AeU stands for.

Recognising excellence across Asia

The convocation will also celebrate the outstanding achievements of its award recipients, whose academic excellence represents AeU’s Asian-centric diversity.

From Indonesia to Malaysia, Sri Lanka to the Maldives, this year’s awardees include:

  • Chancellor’s Award: Komang Aryasa (PhD, ICT)
  • Chairman’s Award: Syed Azhar Ali (MBA)
  • President’s Award: Hendra Marten (B.Ed – Teaching Malay Language in Primary School (Hons)
  • Mahani Zainal Abidin Award: Nur Azyani Azli (MBA)

In addition, 10 School Awards were presented to students from various Schools of AeU for exceptional academic achievement, reflecting the depth of talent and commitment to excellence across all faculties.

Their accomplishments demonstrate the breadth of talent emerging from AeU’s open and distance learning model — proof that excellence knows no borders.

APEL.Q: a testament to lifelong learning

As Malaysia’s pioneer in Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning for Qualifications (APEL.Q), AeU continues to honour professionals whose experience and expertise merit academic recognition.

This year, 23 graduates will receive their qualifications through the APEL.Q pathway — each representing years of real-world learning transformed into recognised academic achievement.

Among them is Batu Gajah MP and former Human Resources Minister Dr V.Sivakumar — an inspiring example of how lifelong learning continues at every level of leadership.

Also among this distinguished APEL.Q cohort is Sarawak State Legislative Assembly member and Tanjung Manis Port Authority chairman Dr Safiee Ahmad, whose dedication to public service and continuous self-development exemplifies AeU’s mission of recognising experiential learning among Asia’s leaders.

Creating pathways to the future

A total of 1,529 graduates will receive their scrolls this year, comprising 1,230 academic graduates and 299 from AeU’s School of Professional and Executive Education Development (SPEED).

Of these, 1,153 are international and 376 are local, reflecting AeU’s strong international reach and its commitment to widening access to higher education for working adults across Asia.

AeU’s founder president Prof Datuk Dr Ansary Ahmed, reaffirmed the university’s forward-looking mission: “At AeU, we are embracing artificial intelligence not just as a tool, but as a transformative force to increase efficiency and enhance learning technologies in lifelong learning,” he shared.

With the leadership of vice-chancellor Prof Dr Noor Raihan Ab Hamid, AeU remains steadfast in its vision — to nurture adaptable, skilled and globally minded graduates ready to lead in an ever-changing world.
