Mileage-based motor insurance to suit your lifestyle

SOMPO MotorSafe Policy can be tailor-suited to your mileage needs.

WITH more Malaysians staying home in these pandemic times, we now clock lower mileage on our vehicles.

Yet we still need to pay insurance for our cars, despite being under-utilised.

The same goes for households with two cars for working parents or couples. One car would have lower mileage as usually on weekends the family or couple would go out in the same car.

With the aim to provide the best value when it comes to car insurance coverage, Berjaya Sompo Insurance Berhad’s chief executive officer Tan Sek Kee said: “We have designed a policy that allows customers to choose coverage according to their mileage needs at discounted premium rates while still enjoying comprehensive protection.

“SOMPO MotorSafe Policy is suitable for households with more than two cars, low mileage drivers as well as weekend car owners.”

Tan said that by using telematics technology, the brand aims to safeguard customers' driving journeys without burning a hole in their pockets.

What is telematics technology

When it comes to motor insurance, telematics technology acts as a device that monitors driving behaviour which includes speed patterns, distance travelled and driving environment.

The car is fitted with a special telematics device to assess the level of protection needed.

SOMPO MotorSafe policy comes with a bluetooth-enabled, battery-powered SOMPO tag, which is paired with the SOMPO MotorSafe app to track the vehicle’s mileage and provide safety assistance.

Under the policy, the insurance provider offers three mileage plans at affordable premiums:

> Plan A: up to 5,000km per annum

> Plan B: up to 10,000km per annum

> Plan C: up to 15,000km per annum

This usage-based telematics motor insurance allows flexibility of coverage according to consumption and enables top-up to the next available plan or full mileage plan when you exceed the initial chosen mileage.

How you can benefit from SOMPO tag

The SOMPO MotorSafe app also has an in-built safety feature.

The tag would also provide assistance during emergencies and instill good driving practices by sending real-time friendly reminders in the form of beeping alerts if you text and drive above 20km/h.

For instance, if your car breaks down or there is an emergency, the emergency button for assistance also known as bCall is easily accessible by just holding down the button for two seconds to get help.

Furthermore, eCall, which is an automatic driver recognition system, would be able to detect severe crashes via your smartphone and the insurance provider helpline will call you to provide assistance.

The SOMPO MotorSafe insurance policy covers loss or damage to the vehicle due to accident, fire and theft, third-party injury, death or property damage if travelling within the chosen mileage.

It also has a 24-Hour Rakan Auto Assist, SOMPO repair warranty of 12 months, all drivers cover and special perils coverage.
